Tustan Rocks

This full-day trip to Tustan from Lviv combines history, spectacular Carpathian scenery and walks in nature. The main historical stop is the Tustan State Historical and Cultural Reserve, a unique site of medieval rock fortifications in the Ukrainian Carpathians.

Between the 9th and 16th centuries, Tustan served as an important defensive and customs post. Its wooden fortress was built directly onto the rock formations, and traces of the structures can still be seen carved into the stone today. The site preserves grooves, caves, wells and other remains of the medieval fortification complex.

We will also visit the Tustan Museum, where archaeological finds, reconstructions and historical exhibits tell the story of the fortress, its inhabitants and life in the region during the Middle Ages.

The nature part of the tour takes place in Skole Beskids National Nature Park. We will visit the picturesque Kamianka Waterfall, walk to Zhuravlyne Lake, also known as Dead Lake, and enjoy the landscapes of the Carpathian Beskids.

During the trip, there will also be an opportunity to take a break and enjoy local dishes at one of the cafés or restaurants along the route.

We recommend bringing: comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, a hat, a raincoat or umbrella, and drinking water.
