Zhovkva Museum City and Krekhiv Monastery
We invite you to visit the former royal fortress city of Zhovkva – a museum city, as Zhovkva has received the status of a state historical and architectural reserve, on the territory of which there are about 55 architectural monuments, including those of world significance.
You will walk along ancient sidewalks, paved in royal times, visit the majestic St. Lawrence Cathedral-tomb, where representatives of three powerful medieval families are buried: the Zholkevskys, Sobieskis, and Danylovychs, the Church of the Nativity of Christ, a powerful defensive synagogue in the Jewish quarter, one of the largest in Europe, and, of course, the royal castle with impressive defensive fortifications.
Near Zhovkva in Krekhiv, in a beautiful forest that belongs to the Yavoriv National Park, there is an ancient defensive-type monastery of St. Nicholas (16-17th centuries), founded by natives of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. It was visited by many prominent people, including the Hetmans of Ukraine: Khmelnytsky, Doroshenko, Mazepa, as well as Moscow Tsar Peter I. Near the monastery, among the picturesque hills of the forested Roztochia, a spring with healing water flows. After Krekhiv, we return to Lviv.
