Lviv in the Days of Grandmother Austria
The late 19th and early 20th centuries were a period of rapid development for Lviv. After the old defensive walls were removed, the city expanded with new districts, public buildings, hotels, theatres and coffee houses, while Lviv Secession became one of the defining styles of the era.
Beyond busy Rynok Square, a different Lviv appears – elegant, intellectual and slightly bohemian. During the walk, you will see the Lviv Opera, Count Skarbek’s Theatre, the buildings of Lviv Polytechnic and the university, the former Ossolineum, the Galician Sejm and other landmarks of the Austrian period.
The tour is not only about architecture. It also explores the people, urban habits and the development of science, education, theatre, music and Lviv’s coffee culture.
