Lviv during Grandma Austria Times
The period of the late 19th – early 20th century is the Golden Age of Lviv. After the demolition of the defensive walls, the city begins to develop rapidly, attracting creative people and scientists. Lviv Art Nouveau flourishes. It was during the Austrian Empire that the first coffee house opened in our city, and by the beginning of the 20th century, their number equaled the number of architectural monuments.
Beyond the bustling Market Square, a completely different Lviv awaits you – cozy, sophisticated, intellectual. Lviv Opera, Count Skarbek's theater, the first Lviv skyscraper, the oldest hotel in Ukraine, famous Lviv coffee houses, buildings of the Ossolineum and the Galician Parliament, and many others. Behind these buildings are stories about historical events, people's destinies, the development of science and education, and the theatrical and musical traditions of the city.
